Take A Seat! Photos and objects
Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, a trained carpenter, once said: “Anyone who can build a chair can also build a house.”
Portraits of chairs, landscape panoramas with chairs, light installations and objets trouvés are exhibited on two floors. The photographer shows abandoned chairs in nature and urban spaces, just as he finds them – marked by use and weather. They tell stories of presence and absence, of loneliness and sociability, of resilience and transience. Quotes from architects revolve around the chair as a ‘house in miniature’ – and at the same time build a bridge to the history of the exhibition venue at the Viktualienmarkt: after the Second World War, the high-rise bunker served as a chair warehouse.
