The Lido, the people and the Venice Film Festival
The Venice Film Festival is the oldest in the world and one of the most prestigious. The special atmosphere is created by the proximity of Italian vacation worlds to the glamorous performances of international stars in front of the Palazzo del Cinema. The beach is only 50 meters away from the Red Carpet. Always at the beginning of September, famous actors and actresses in evening dress or tuxedo present the productions of the cinema autumn – and unimpressed by this, the people who live on the Lido or spend their vacations there swim in the sea, play cards and enjoy the first Sprizz at noon. The Mediterranean atmosphere and the world of cinema miraculously marry for a few days and develop a relaxed coexistence.
Once a fashionable seaside resort, Lido di Venezia fascinates with small-town Italian charm, vacation flair and moments of morbidity. It does not have much in common with the lagoon city overrun by tourists. The inhabitants of the Lido are often simple workers and employees who live year-round on the island off the lagoon.
